Job Summary
Client is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with active Professional Engineer (PE) licensure who can independently stamp and seal engineering documents. The role supports engineering and design services for the U.S. Department of Energy Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR).
Selected candidate will serve as the responsible Engineer of Record for mechanical systems supporting mission‑critical petroleum storage and transfer infrastructure in a highly regulated federal environment.
Responsibilities- Serve as Engineer of Record and stamp/seal mechanical design documents.
- Lead design of mechanical systems, including pumping systems, piping and fluid transfer systems, tank and pipeline support systems, HVAC systems for industrial facilities, and equipment specifications and procurement packages.
- Perform hydraulic and mechanical calculations for petroleum and utility systems.
- Ensure compliance with ASME codes, NFPA standards, UFC criteria, DOE Orders and other federal standards.
- Develop technical specifications, design narratives, and construction documents.
- Coordinate with civil, structural, electrical, and process disciplines.
- Support value engineering efforts and internal design quality reviews.
- Provide construction phase support (RFIs, submittals, site visits, commissioning support).
- Participate in field investigations and system condition assessments.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in Oil and Gas; ability to stamp and seal engineering documents.
- Significant experience in industrial mechanical systems.
- U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a Federal Government .
- Experience with Fire Protection Engineering (FPE) is highly desirable.
- Experience in petroleum, energy, or industrial processing facilities.
- Fire Protection Engineering licensure or significant experience designing fire suppression systems (foam, water‑based, special hazard).
- Knowledge of NFPA 13, 15, 20, 30 and related standards.
- Construction phase engineering support experience.
Primary location: VCI’s office, Harahan, LA (hybrid possible). Occasional travel to SPR storage facilities in Texas and Louisiana several times a year.
Compensation & BenefitsSalary: $125,000–$135,000 per year.
Benefits include 100% paid medical premiums for each eligible employee, 20% coverage for qualifying dependents, and participation in a 401(k) plan after a 3‑month waiting period.
