Are you looking for an exciting and varied internship in the development department at Mercedes-Benz? Our department is responsible for the functional safety of our drive systems. This includes electric drives, hybrid drives, and conventional internal combustion engines.

Functional safety is essential in the automotive sector to protect people and objects from hazards caused by malfunctions of technical systems and to reduce risks to an acceptable level. Given the increasing complexity of modern vehicles, which contain a multitude of electrical and electronic systems (E/E systems), ensuring functional safety has become a highly complex and multifaceted challenge that requires comprehensive expertise and innovative solutions.

The assurance of functional safety is not only a technical necessity but is also prescribed by specific standards and laws. The most important standard for this is ISO 26262 and is a fundamental prerequisite for the approval of vehicles in various countries and for the trust of customers in the safety of our Mercedes-Benz products.

The following challenges await you:

• Training in and practical application of modern AI tools (including Microsoft Copilot, n8n) to optimize our development processes
• Process analysis and documentation with a focus on identifying automation and optimization potentials
• Prioritization of optimization approaches with the impact vs. effort model
• Presentation of results, creation of user documentation, and introduction to the operational workflow

The position can start in September 2026.

Qualifications:

• Degree in computer science, business informatics, data science/artificial intelligence, software engineering, industrial engineering, or a comparable technical field
• Strong affinity for artificial intelligence, automation, and digitalization
• Analytical mindset and a structured working style
• Basic programming skills are advantageous
• High motivation, communication skills, and the willingness to proactively work on complex systems
• Good German and English language skills
