Engineering & Maintenance Manager – New Orleans, Louisiana
Reports to the Plant Manager and oversees the engineering, maintenance, and operations teams at the Zatarain’s Plant located at 82 1st Street, Gretna, Louisiana.
Job OverviewUnder the direction of the Plant Manager, the Engineering & Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading the Project, Process, and Building Maintenance, Security, and Maintenance Operations functions. The incumbent drives reliability, cost reduction, waste reduction, safety, quality, and sanitation improvements, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures while monitoring progress toward capital and resource utilization goals. The role collaborates with Plant leadership to realize McCormick’s vision and achieve operational excellence.
KeyRoles and Responsibilities
- Manage day‑to‑day activities of Maintenance, Process Engineering, and Project Engineering, setting goals, monitoring progress, and evaluating staff performance.
- Prepare and manage the Capital Asset Acquisition Proposal (CAAP) annual budget, ensuring proper project planning, execution, and financial stewardship.
- Develop strategic capital plans to replace worn equipment, expand capacity, and implement packaging or process changes that drive efficiency and cost savings.
- Document and standardize all engineering and maintenance processes, including preventive maintenance programs and procurement/inventory systems.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements for waste disposal, air emissions, and facility permits, and maintain safety & security systems such as sprinklers, fire fighting equipment, and internal alarms.
- Create operating and capital budgets in partnership with leadership, managing department expenses and contributing to business‑planning and budgeting.
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 7 years of experience in manufacturing, pharmaceutical, or chemical industries, with progressive leadership roles. Requires shop‑floor and information‑systems experience (PC, PLC, robotics), process engineering and analytical mapping, and proficiency with CMMS and preventive‑maintenance practices. Experience in food processing is an asset.
