SummaryThe primary function of this position is to implement, coordinate, and manage regulatory compliance for Water operations with the Department of Utilities. This includes maintaining compliance with local, state and federal environmental regulations by inspecting, reviewing and coordinating Department of Utilities operations relative to applicable Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) and Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ) regulations.

- Maintenance of compliance files:
- Review and/or prepare reports to state and federal environmental agencies
- Ensures all compliance files are kept in proper order for review by state and federal regulatory agencies
- Track all field personnel paperwork (water well logs, chlorine residual reports for water systems, and customer complaint forms);
- Responsible for reporting LDH Community Drinking Water Accountability information annually (Water System Grade)
- Oversee Cross Connection program and Compliance
- Coordinates with operators and crew leaders to obtain data needed for compliance reporting
- Maintain the Safe Drinking Water Program in compliance with Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (LDHH) and United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA);
- Oversee Lead & Copper program and compliance
- Keep all operation and maintenance manuals for Utility water systems up to date;
- Oversee and coordinate hydrant flushing and maintenance, protocol and scheduling
- Assist with water sampling for all Utility water systems (when needed);
- Conduct field inspections
- Accompany government inspectors on inspection visits
- Regular, consistent attendance is required
- Any other duties as assigned
Employee must be able to operate basic office equipment, office computer and software including Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel, and any other specialty equipment needed for this position. Communicates effectively and has excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
Work EnvironmentThe primary duties of this position are performed in a professional office environment but are not limited to an office environment. This position also includes field areas of empty land which may include swampy and wet conditions. This position may be exposed to wildlife and bugs in the environment.
Physical Demands:Light work
Light work involves lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may be very little, a job is in this category when it requires a good deal of walking or standing, or when it involves sitting most of the time with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls.
To be considered capable of performing a full or wide range of light work, you must have the ability to do substantially all of these activities. If someone can do light work, we determine that h[e?] he or she can also do sedentary work, unless there are additional limiting factors such as loss of fine dexterity or inability to sit for long periods of time.
Education/Qualifications
A high school diploma or equivalent GED. Must be a certified (Class 1 or above) operator with the State of Louisiana in Water Distribution, Water Production, and/ or Water Treatment.
Three (3) years’ water quality compliance experience with a municipal or privately owned utility with a minimum of six thousand (6,000) water customers preferred.
Requires a Valid Driver’s License.
