Responsibilities:

  • Conduct forensic investigations involving electrical failures, electrical fires, equipment malfunctions, power distribution systems, and damage caused by a power surge or lightning.

  • Apply engineering principles, codes, standards, and industry best practices to develop defensible conclusions.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and technically sound forensic engineering reports.
  • Participate in depositions, mediation, arbitration, and trial proceedings as an expert witness when required.
  • Communicate findings effectively with clients, attorneys, insurance professionals, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain current knowledge of electrical codes, engineering standards, emerging technologies, and forensic investigation methodologies.
  • Perform other project-related consulting services as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in good standing; multiple state licensure preferred.
  • Prior forensic engineering or forensic electrical consulting experience preferred.
  • Experience conducting fire origin and cause investigations involving electrical systems preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience investigating electrical failures, electrical fires, equipment damage, power quality issues, arc fault events, and related loss causation matters.
  • Knowledge of applicable electrical codes and standards.
  • Experience performing electrical system troubleshooting, testing, or failure analysis.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel independently to inspection sites throughout the assigned region.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience providing litigation support, depositions, or expert testimony preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments independently and meet project deadlines.

Engagement Structure:

  • Independent Contractor (1099) relationship.
  • Project-based assignments as opportunities arise.
  • Flexible workload and scheduling.
  • Competitive compensation based on assignment scope and complexity.
  • Opportunity to support investigations across residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
  • Travel requirements vary based on project demand and geographic coverage.
  • Contractor is responsible for all applicable taxes, licensing requirements, insurance, and business expenses associated with the engagement.
