Section Manager – Traffic and Safety Engineering

• Lead the technical discipline section in project design, development, and delivery
• Coordinate project priorities, staffing schedules, and staff assignments
• Provide technical coaching and mentoring and ensure efficient staff utilization
• Manage and develop a traffic and safety engineering section of 6-8 engineers
• Develop, monitor, and manage the section's operating budget and forecast updates
• Coordinate section activities, establish priorities, and assign staff to jobs
• Collaborate with other sections and departments on work‑sharing opportunities
• Support strategic planning and the Sophisticated Sales Approach process on project pursuits
• Support contracting processes through project delivery, including scope, work plan, and fee reviews
• Support project delivery processes, work planning, monthly project reviews, and performance methods
• Assist with marketing, client discovery, proposals, interviews, and win‑to‑work activities
• Maintain client contacts and ensure client satisfaction
• Recruit, hire, develop, and retain section staff
• Manage staff reporting, performance and compensation reviews, and succession planning
• Manage project scope, schedule, budget, and quality
• Perform technical engineering tasks including research, reports, design, specifications, and plan preparation
• Lead a team through direct and indirect supervision of at least 5, typically 7-10 or more employees
• Perform other duties as assigned

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering with 8 years of practical experience, including 2 years of leadership experience
• Master's degree in Engineering preferred
• 10 years practical experience preferred
• 2 years supervisory experience preferred
• Professional Engineer (PE) certification preferred
• American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification preferred
• Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred

• Experience and knowledge in traffic and safety analysis from feasibility/conceptual stage through design and construction
• Ability to provide technical coaching and mentoring
• Ability to manage and develop a group of 6-8 traffic and safety engineers

Demonstrates expertise in traffic and safety engineering, including project management, technical coaching, and team leadership. Proven ability to manage budgets, schedules, and deliver high-quality engineering solutions while ensuring client satisfaction.
