The Product Support Specialist is the senior, largely autonomous field role in Product Support Services — the technical authority on-site, the customer’s main point of contact, and the link back to Engineering. Specialists work independently on complex and non-routine problems, and mentor Product Support Technicians on assignment. This role is typically filled by promotion from Product Support Technician or by hiring candidates with significant existing field experience.
PositionResponsibilities
- Leads on-site installation, startup, and repair of complex DSC dredging and support equipment, working independently and directing Technicians as needed.
- Diagnoses and resolves complex or non-routine electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical problems; serves as the primary technical point of contact and liaison with the customer.
- Interfaces directly with DSC manufacturing facilities and the customer through every phase of installation, training, and maintenance.
- Confirms customer facilities and support equipment are ready before dredging equipment arrives on site.
- Identifies and promotes equipment modifications, upgrades, and services that improve equipment performance; supports installation of upgrades and retrofits.
- Runs preventive maintenance programs and partners with Engineering on operational and PM procedures.
- Initiates equipment modification recommendations to Engineering based on field findings.
- Mentors and provides technical guidance to Product Support Technicians on assignment.
- Maintains technical proficiency across the full DSC product line and recommends manufacturing or cost improvements.
- High school diploma or GED required;
- 3–5+ years of hands-on field experience in electrical, mechanical, or hydraulic systems
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, often with little to no supervision, in a customer-facing role.
- Valid driver’s license and passport, with the flexibility to travel 100% of the time — domestic and international — including extended assignments on short notice.
- Willing to work flexible or rotating shifts and stay reachable outside standard hours while on assignment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; experience training or presenting to customer teams.
- Proficiency with MS Office.
This role is performed primarily at customer job sites rather than in an office. Employees regularly work outdoors and in varying weather conditions, near moving mechanical parts and heavy equipment, and are exposed to loud noise, vibration, and risk of electrical shock. The role requires standing, walking, climbing, and lifting equipment and tools consistent with field service work; reasonable accommodations can be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
