Sr. Staff Accountant

Location: New Orleans

Description We are looking for an experienced Sr. Staff Accountant to join a dynamic team in New Orleans, Louisiana. In this contract to permanent role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the financial success of a growing company within the mortgage industry. This position is ideal for someone who pays close attention to detail and excels in financial reporting, compliance, and reconciliation processes.

Responsibilities:

- Prepare and record complex journal entries and reconcile accounts, including areas such as payroll, cash, and prepaid expenses.

- Develop monthly balance sheets and income statement analyses to support management decision-making.

- Participate in month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial close activities, including creating and maintaining close workbooks.

- Implement and monitor internal controls and accounting procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

- Maintain fixed asset ledgers, depreciation schedules, and perform related reconciliations.

- Update capital lease payment schedules and ensure their accuracy on a monthly basis.

- Analyze financial data and present insights in a clear and actionable manner.

- Handle intercompany transactions, billing processes, and corresponding reconciliations.

- Collaborate with external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits to ensure smooth processes.

- Contribute to special projects and support department-wide initiatives as needed. Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field is preferred.

- At least 2 years of accounting experience with a strong focus on accuracy and attention to detail.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with other relevant software tools.

- Experience working with accounting platforms.

- Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail.

- Excellent organizational abilities paired with effective written and verbal communication skills.

- Capability to meet critical deadlines and work independently in a fast-paced environment.

- Solid understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and general accounting procedures.
