Advantage Credit Union is seeking an experienced, member-focused Loan Officer II to join our lending team. This position is responsible for originating, underwriting, processing, and servicing a full range of consumer and mortgage loans, as well as credit card products.

The Loan Officer II works directly with members to understand their financial circumstances, gather the information needed to evaluate creditworthiness, and make sound lending decisions within established authority. This position requires strong analytical judgment, effective communication skills, and the ability to balance responsible lending practices with a commitment to helping members achieve financial success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interview members and gather complete, accurate information regarding their financial needs, income, debts, credit history, collateral, and ability to repay.
  • Originate, evaluate, underwrite, and process consumer and mortgage loan applications in accordance with credit union policies, lending authority, and regulatory requirements.
  • Analyze credit reports, income documentation, debt-to-income ratios, payment history, collateral values, loan-to-value ratios, and other relevant risk factors.
  • Ask appropriate follow-up questions and communicate directly with members to clarify information, resolve inconsistencies, and develop a complete understanding of each loan request.
  • Exercise sound lending judgment when approving, denying, or recommending loan terms and counteroffers.
  • Identify potential credit risks and determine whether appropriate mitigating factors support the loan request.
  • Structure loans in a manner that meets member needs while protecting the credit union from unnecessary risk.
  • Clearly explain loan decisions, credit criteria, interest rates, terms, documentation requirements, and available alternatives.
  • Explain reasons for loan denials professionally and assist members in identifying alternative solutions when appropriate.
  • Accurately prepare, review, and disburse loan documentation in a timely manner.
  • Process dealer and online loan applications, communicate approvals, denials, and counteroffers, and review dealer loan packets for accuracy and completeness.
  • Refer loan requests outside assigned lending authority to the appropriate level of management with a clear, well-supported recommendation.
Credit Card Services
  • Evaluate, approve, issue, and maintain credit card accounts within established lending authority.
  • Assist members with credit card applications, account servicing, disputes, and questions.
  • Review requests for new credit and credit-line increases using sound underwriting practices.
Member Service & Financial Solutions
  • Build strong member relationships by listening carefully, asking thoughtful questions, and gaining a complete understanding of each member's financial situation.
  • Provide financial guidance to help members understand their credit, lending options, and responsibilities.
  • Identify member needs and recommend appropriate loan and non-loan products, including debt protection, GAP, warranty, and other value-added services.
  • Communicate lending decisions clearly, respectfully, and confidently, including during difficult or sensitive conversations.
  • Resolve member inquiries in person, by phone, or by connecting members with the appropriate department.
  • Maintain regular communication with members throughout the application and closing process.
Compliance & Professional Development
  • Ensure all underwriting and lending decisions comply with credit union policies, procedures, fair lending requirements, and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Maintain complete and accurate documentation supporting lending decisions.
  • Maintain current knowledge of underwriting standards, lending trends, products, economic conditions, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in credit union and community activities that support member relationships and lending growth.
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of the credit union's history, philosophy, organization, products, and operational procedures.
