This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) at each level:

• Corrections Cadet: $17.50 per hour
• Corrections Sergeant: $18.80 per hour
• Corrections Sergeant-Master: $20.11 per hour

Premium Pay: An additional rate between $.50 and $1.00 per hour for each regular hour worked, based on years of service with DOC.

Position Specific Duties:

• Complete six-week Correctional Officer Training Academy.
• Work closely with inmates in a State prison facility.
• Responsible for custody and security of inmates in various settings.
• Supervise inmate housing, escort prisoners, investigate suspicious activities, and conduct security searches.
• Supervise inmate work crews, patrol prison areas, and transport inmates as needed.
• Follow directives from senior officers and adhere to departmental policies.
• Receive firearms training.

Incentive Pay: Eligible for additional pay after becoming permanent, if holding an Associate or Baccalaureate Degree in specified fields from an accredited institution.

Career Progression:

• Start as a Corrections Cadet. May start as a Sergeant with relevant experience.
• Promotion to Corrections Sergeant after 6 months of successful employment.
• Promotion to Corrections Sergeant-Master after one year.
• With 2 years of experience and permanent status, eligible to apply for Corrections Lieutenant.

Salary depends on experience level:

• Vacancies may be filled at different levels based on experience.
• Maximum salary for Sergeant-Master is $70,845 annually.

This position may be filled as a temporary appointment with potential for conversion to permanent status.

• No Civil Service Test Score required.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED, or one year of experience in any field.

Special Requirements:

• Disqualifying factors include certain criminal convictions and violations of PREA.
• Must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid driver’s license.
