Position: RECREATION COORDINATOR I (CLASS CODE 6123)
Location: New Orleans

responsible professional level work under general supervision in planning, organizing, and directing either a major specialized phase of a municipal recreation program or the overall recreational activities in a specialized geographical area, and related work as required.
either
: a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in recreation, parks administration, leisure activities, health, physical education, fine arts or performing arts* and two (2) years of full-time professional recreation work with final responsibility for planning, coordinating, and implementing complex, multi-faceted recreation programs and activities or work involving supervision of a comprehensive community- based recreation program in a large recreation organization or physical education program at a high school or college.

permanent status with the new orleans recreation department and three (3) years of experience as a recreation supervisor or recreation center manager iii.

appropriate volunteer experience which can be documented by a recognized volunteer agency will be accepted at the rate of 40 hours of experience for each week of work. Applicants must submit a written statement from the volunteer agency specifying the number of hours worked and describing the duties of the job.

If selected for hire, applicants must provide original documents of their qualifying credentials to the hiring agency prior to their start date in this job classification.
a rating of training and experience, weighted 100%. Credit will only be given for related experience gained within the last ten (10) years for the purpose of the rating of training and experience;

however, all related previous experience will be considered for qualification purposes.

this is an original entrance examination.

this position requires a one (1) year probationary period.
