Location: New Orleans
job responsibilities
entry‑level technical inspection and law‑enforcement work to secure compliance with city fire prevention regulations and ordinances, promote fire prevention methods, investigate origins and causes of fires, perform other departmental investigations directed by the superintendent, and related work as required.
qualifications- high school diploma or ged, and at least 4 years of experience in one of: fire prevention, firefighting (must include firefighter certification accredited by international fire service accreditation congress or national board on fire service professional qualifications), safety engineering, occupational safety, fire protection, engineering, architecture, building/housing inspection, drafting, designing buildings, or law enforcement (must include peace officer standards and training certification).
- sixty (60) semester hours of college credit may substitute for two (2) years of related experience.
- or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- background check required; convictions for felonies or numerous misdemeanors may be disqualifying.
- applicants must become certified by the international code council as a fire inspector i and obtain peace officer standards and training certification during a probationary period of no more than one year.
the examination consists of:
- a written multiple‑choice test (100%)
- a writing skills qualifying test
- if offered conditional employment, a qualifying medical test (possible chest or lumbar spine x‑ray), psychological/psychiatric evaluation, and a stress ekg may be administered.
