The incumbent serves as a key advisor and special assistant to the Deputy Warden at Elayn Hunt Correctional Center. The role supports the Warden by coordinating with and evaluating the operations of multiple major departments to ensure alignment with institutional goals and the broader objectives of state government. The position requires daily execution of highly complex and confidential administrative assignments. The incumbent must maintain comprehensive knowledge of Department of Corrections regulations and institutional policies that govern the overall function and operation of the facility.
PositionDetails
Appointment Type: Probation, or Promotion of a permanent, classified Louisiana state employee. Current permanent status classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probationary appointment if accepted.
Position-Specific DetailsFacility: Elayn Hunt Correctional Center, St. Gabriel, LA (24-hour facility).
Responsibilities- Serve as a confidential liaison to the Warden. As a member of the facility’s executive staff, attend private meetings, receive and communicate highly sensitive and confidential information, and maintain confidential materials.
- Coordinate, manage, and monitor the Inmate Disciplinary Appeals program by serving as consultant and resource person, independently deciding outcomes to verify compliance with rules and departmental regulations; advise the Warden on findings; process appeals to the Secretary of the Department of Corrections as required; notify the Warden of decisions and recommend policy and procedure changes as needed.
- Represent the facility or Warden in interactions with executive and high-level officials of the Department, other state agencies, local governments, and public officials; advise the Warden on status of projects or programs.
- Perform various duties at the request and under the supervision of the Deputy Warden; provide assistance to executive and administrative staff; serve on departmental committees.
- Five years of experience in administrative services; OR
- Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus two years of experience in administrative services; OR
- A bachelor’s degree plus two years of experience in administrative services; OR
- An advanced degree plus one year of experience in administrative services.
- Experience substitution:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university counts as one year of experience toward the six years requirement, up to a maximum substitution of 120 semester hours (four years). - Proficiency in following policies, procedures, and applicable regulations; ability to maintain confidentiality; strong communication and analytical skills.
- The agency is a drug-free workplace.
- All degrees, certificates, licenses, or DD-214 must be verified by official documentation prior to hire.
- Qualifying experience based on college credit/hours requires a transcript for verification.
- This is a 24-hour facility.
