The mission of Corrections Services is to enhance public safety through the safe and secure incarceration of offenders, effective probation/parole supervision and proven rehabilitative strategies that successfully reintegrate offenders into society, as well as to assist individuals and communities victimized by crime. Goals and priorities include staff and offender safety, provision of basic services, opportunity for change, opportunity for making amends and reentry.
The Probation and Parole Officer is responsible for supervising and investigating criminal offenders through the provision of probation, parole and pardon assigned to the district office.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise felons and misdemeanants through counseling and referrals to community resources on social adjustment problems.
- Enforce conditions of supervision and perform all aspects of the violation process under close supervision.
- Conduct criminal justice social background investigations and make recommendations for decision makers.
- Conduct arrests, transport violators, prepare reports to courts and parole board, and attend probable cause and revocation hearings.
- Investigate and determine amounts of victims restitution, set payment schedules, and collect and disburse restitution, supervision fees, fines, court costs, and other criminal justice monies.
- Place offenders in appropriate drug treatment, vocational rehabilitation, or mental health programs; assist them in obtaining emergency financial aid, support, and provide crisis intervention services.
- Comply with ACA standards, administer drug tests, assist in jail operation audits, and make decisions regarding the application of PPCT defensive tactics system.
- Supervise discretionary community service work performed by parolees and conduct disciplinary hearings for adult inmates in CRCs.
- Coordinate with Probation and Parole Officer 1, 2, 3, P&P Supervisors, P&P Specialist, P&P Program Managers, P&P District Managers, Administrative Program Managers.
- Focusing on customers – serve the needs of those who rely on the services provided.
- Following policies and procedures – comply with policies, procedures, State Civil Service rules, federal and state laws.
- Making accurate judgments – form an objective and decisive opinion based on relevant information.
- Thinking critically – generate ideas, manipulate ideas, and make unconventional connections to develop original approaches.
- Three years of experience in corrections or law enforcement; OR
- Three years of continuous active military duty; OR
- Six years of full‑time experience in any field; OR
- A bachelor's degree.
- Experience substitution:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience toward the six years of full‑time work experience. Maximum substitution of 120 semester hours (four years).
- Probation and Parole Officer 1 – $1,872.00 bi‑weekly.
- Probation and Parole Officer 2 – $2,003.20 bi‑weekly.
- Probation and Parole Officer 3 – $2,213.60 bi‑weekly.

- All degrees, certificates, licenses, or DD‑214 must be verified prior to hire.
- Any experience based on college credit must have verified transcript.

Alternative 4/10 schedules may be available for certain positions.
