Position: LATENT PRINT EXAMINER (CLASS CODE 5266)
Location: New Orleans

Job Overview

This is a first level technical position in the field of forensic science using appropriate protocols to analyze friction ridge evidence. Work includes performing forensic examination in the area of pattern and impression evidence, including the analysis of latent prints on physical evidence and the comparison of friction ridge skin impressions. The latent print examiner completes all work aligning with ISO
17025 accreditation standards, writes reports of findings, enters prints into the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) database, and provides courtroom testimony as needed.

Eligibility

This position is pending City Council approval.

Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university in Forensics, Criminal Justice, Evidence Technology, Biology, Chemistry, or a closely related field, AND one year of experience performing latent print examinations.
  • An Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Forensics, Criminal Justice, Evidence Technology, Biology, Chemistry, or a closely related field, AND at least two years of experience performing latent print examinations.
  • A High School Diploma or GED AND three years of experience performing latent print examinations.
  • Certification as a Latent Print Examiner through the International Association of Identification (IAI).

If selected for hire, applicants must provide original documents of their qualifying credentials to the hiring agency prior to their start date.

Experience rating is weighted 100%. All related previous experience will be considered for qualification purposes; however, credit on the rating of training and experience will only be given for experience gained within the last ten (10) years.
