Responsibilities
  • Conduct police patrol and investigative work, protecting life and property while enforcing federal, state, and municipal laws and ordinances.
  • Work on rotating or fixed shifts, which may include nights, evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events. Employees may be called to duty in emergencies and may be required to work overtime.

  • Previous probationary or permanent status as a sworn Police Officer with the New Orleans Police Department.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Current Louisiana P.O.S.T. certification or an equivalent state certification.

  • Must meet current NOPD hiring standards, including background check, drug screening, and physical requirements.
Additional Requirements
  • Medical examination and screening are required for all original entrance probationary appointments.
  • Background investigation and criminal history review will be conducted. Criminal history will not automatically disqualify a candidate.
  • Applicants may be subject to substance‑abuse testing during the working‑test period.
