Position Title

Minimum Qualifications
  • Three years of experience in corrections or law enforcement;
  • OR three years of continuous active military duty (all Military Occupational Specialties apply);
  • OR six years of full‑time experience in any field; or
  • A bachelor’s degree.
Experience Substitution

Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience toward the six‑year requirement. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours, which substitutes for up to four years of experience.

Special Requirements
  • Applicant must not have a misdemeanor domestic‑violence crime or a felony conviction, or be under indictment on a felony charge unless cleared by state and federal law.
  • Possession of a current Louisiana driver’s license.
  • Position requires handling and carrying firearms.
  • Willingness and ability to attain Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.
Job Duties
  • Supervise felony and misdemeanor offenders through counseling, case management, and referrals to community resources supporting rehabilitation and social adjustment.
  • Enforce conditions of probation and parole by monitoring compliance, managing violations, and participating in the violation process.
  • Conduct criminal‑justice investigations and prepare reports and recommendations for courts, parole and pardon boards, and other decision makers.
  • Conduct arrests, transport violators, and participate in probable‑cause, revocation, and disciplinary hearings.
  • Investigate and manage restitution, supervision fees, fines, court costs, and other criminal‑justice financial obligations.
  • Coordinate offender placement in drug treatment, vocational rehabilitation, mental health, and other support programs while providing crisis intervention and emergency assistance.
  • Administer drug testing, supervise community service activities, and ensure compliance with American Correctional Association (ACA) standards and agency policies.
  • Assist with jail and contract compliance audits for facilities and Community Rehabilitation Centers (CRCs), including applying defensive tactics and maintaining institutional safety and security.
Appointment Type

Probational or promotion of a permanent classified employee of the Louisiana State Government. Current permanent status may require acceptance of a probational appointment. A promotion may require a trial detail prior to permanent promotion. Temporary appointments may be converted to probational appointments if a permanent position becomes available.
