About This PositionThis position serves as a ARFF fireman for the agency.
Minimum QualificationsOne year of experience in fire prevention or fire suppression as a firefighter; OR
Military service in any capacity plus six months of experience in fire prevention or fire suppression as a firefighter.

Job DutiesJob Duties and Other Information
- Remains available throughout tour of duty to respond to a wide variety of emergencies.
- Participates in a rotation to communicate with the air traffic control tower for incident response.
- Monitors and receives notifications from multiple radio frequencies, alarm monitoring services, and alarm telephones with the ability to communicate with each and initiate proper emergency response.
- Monitors Air Traffic Control Tower Emergency Alert Phone Link and initiates proper emergency response as required. Monitors multiple non-emergency business telephone lines and forwards calls and information as required during normal operations.
- Operates firefighting vehicles and apparatus. Places portable firefighting equipment into operation at emergency scenes, including (but not limited to) aircraft accidents or incidents, structural fires, trash, grass, and vehicle fires, and other entanglement emergencies within a limited geographical area.
- Provides emergency first aid and basic life support as necessary, at the level of Emergency Medical Responder, within a limited geographical area in accordance with local Louisiana Region One EMS protocols.
- Responds to and assesses hazardous materials releases within a limited geographical area. Initiates appropriate containment and/or mitigation activities. In accordance with the existing Mutual Aid Plan, assists other agencies as required.
- Assists in location of activated emergency locator devices once notified.
- Attends Federal Aviation Administration-approved rescue and firefighting course annually or as required to maintain ARFF certification. Must attend 1 live burn a year.
