Overview

POSITION: LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE

DEPARTMENT: JONESVILLES RURAL HEALTH CLINIC

FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT

JOB SUMMARY: Continuously responsible for providing professional nursing service (according to qualifications and training) and non-professional services as directed. Directly responsible for performing patient care functions according to established standards, policies and procedures. Regular contact with all hospital departments, physicians, and the public.

Responsibilities
  • Obtain and record vital signs, assessments, chief complaints, medical history, height/weight, etc. as appropriate
  • Perform basic clinical procedures such as wound dressing, specimen collection, point of care testing, EKGs, etc. (as trained)
  • Administer and record all medications and treatments based on provider orders accurately using proper procedures
  • Record all care information concisely, accurately, and completely in a timely manner
  • Assist providers with exams, minor procedures, and urgent care needs
  • Prepare, stock, and sterilize exam rooms and clinical equipment
  • Communicate test instructions and follow-up plans to patients clearly and effectively
  • Assist with patient outreach for lab results, chronic disease follow-up, and preventative-care reminders
  • Collaborate with the care team to ensure timely documentation and quality care delivery
  • Accurately document all patient interactions, procedures, medications, and communications in the Electronic Health Record
  • Follow RHC regulations, safety protocols, and infection control standards
  • Monitor and maintain clinic supplies and equipment usage; notify appropriate departments to replenish stock, as necessary
  • Participate in Performance Improvement on a monthly basis
  • Maintain knowledge regarding use of defibrillators, holter monitors, etc.
  • Perform and document quality controls daily
  • Uphold HIPAA and patient privacy standards
  • Provide basic health education, medication instructions, and lifestyle guidelines within skill level and training
  • Maintain a neat and orderly work area
  • Assist with diabetic foot care, as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Education and Training: Graduate of a course for LPN. Must be licensed in the state of Louisiana. CPR certified.

Work Experience: No experience necessary.

  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR)
  • Interpersonal skills and compassion
  • Analyzing information, critical thinking, and problem solving
  • Attention to detail to ensure accuracy
  • Basic computer skills
Physical Requirements
  • Remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time
  • Occasionally move about the office and facility to access various departments and patient care areas
  • Constantly position self to maintain equipment and provide patient care
  • Constantly operate a computer, office, and patient care machinery
  • Ability to communicate information accurately so others will understand
  • Ability to observe details at close range
  • Occasionally assist patients such as lifting, pushing, or pulling, up to 50 lbs
  • Frequently move boxes, equipment, etc. weighing up to 20 pounds across the office for various needs
