TITLE: SPEECH/LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 9 months/182 days. Salary established by the Board.
OVERVIEW OF POSITIONTo enable students to derive the fullest possible educational experience from school by providing a full range of speech/language services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Explain and interpret speech/language services to parents, teachers, principals, and other members of the St. James Parish school system.
- Provide individual or group speech/language therapy for students with identified problems that would benefit from such services.
- Formulate short and long term intervention goals and regularly update them to meet individual communication needs.
- Plan and conduct parent and teacher conferences on a regular basis concerning those children enrolled in speech/language therapy.
- Re-evaluate as a Pupil Appraisal services staff member in accordance with the guidelines set forth in Bulletin 1508 and the regulations implementing Act 754, those students found to be in need of speech therapy services as a related service.
- Participate in Special Education eligibility determinations and IEP conferences, as needed.
- Interpret assessment findings to parents, teachers, principals, and other professional parish personnel and responsible practitioners outside the school.
- Provide or assist in the provision of in-service training of school personnel in areas of responsibility and expertise.
- Maintain accurate case records on all students regarding their referrals, evaluations, and any other services provided by the speech/language pathologist in accordance with the requirements of parish, state and federal laws, regulations and/or policies.
- Attend staff, professional, and inter-agency meetings, including those assigned.
- Disseminate information concerning new developments in the area of speech/language to appropriate school personnel.
- Complete all required reports of the Parish and the State Department of Education.
- Perform other such duties and assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Special Education.
- Prepare and implement a weekly plan or individualized therapy activities for each student enrolled in the speech therapy program. Written plans are maintained in the speech pathologist’s log book designated by the Director of Special Education.

- Completes tasks, reports, and documents accurately according to specified timelines and expectations.

- Adheres to district guidelines relative to attendance. Regularly reports to work on time and works additional hours when deemed necessary.

- Follows directives as assigned by supervisor.
- Refrains from revealing confidential information.
- Uses proper administrative procedures for making requests and resolving conflicts.
The combination of the applicable measure of growth in student learning (value-added score) and the qualitative assessment of performance (competencies and performance standards) shall result in a composite score used to distinguish levels of overall effectiveness.

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONCertification by the State Department of Education as a Speech/Language Pathologist and Licensed by the Board of Examiners of Speech Pathology and Audiology.
