Make a meaningful difference on the front lines of public health! As a Disease Intervention Specialist 1 with the Louisiana Office of Public Health Regional STD/HIV Program, you’ll lead impactful disease investigations and case management while advancing HIV prevention efforts in your community. In this dynamic role, you’ll collaborate with program leadership and serve as a trusted voice in community education and outreach—helping protect health, reduce transmission, and support those who need it most.

Qualifications:
- Three years of experience in disease investigation and prevention activities.
- Three years of experience in investigatory work, social services, nursing, or as a medical laboratory technician or assistant.
- A bachelor's degree.

Job DutiesThis position requires routine statewide duties, including fieldwork, inspections, investigations, or direct services that extend beyond the employee’s domicile parish. These statewide responsibilities are an inherent and ongoing part of the job and may require frequent travel.
- Carry-out and coordinate investigative and case management activities and screenings in various community settings and is identified as a lead/liaison to establish or maintain collaborative relationships with improved communication and partnerships that affect disease outcomes in clients and populations.
- Provide internal and external STD and HIV presentations or trainings to increase awareness of disease, trends, and program services.
- Perform quality, demonstrated field and case management activities in various settings to include: pre-field searches through available resources, systems and files; phone calls to medical providers; field investigations and pouch management; disease intervention interviews; partner/cluster elicitation, notification and referrals; case analysis and management; risk assurance that persons with positive lab finding for HIV, and their exposed partners or other at risk individuals, are referred for services such as treatment and case management.
- Utilize available data system(s) and maintain data security and confidentiality in accordance with state and programmatic laws, policies, and procedures.
- Strive to meet or achieve programmatic timelines and documentation on disease related electronic records.
- Establish or maintain collaborative relationships with community groups; and assist with targeted outreach screenings to identify populations impacted by, or at risk of HIV/AIDS.
- Use proper laboratory procedures to obtain blood and oral specimens-with approved training, observed practice and certification.
- Communicate effectively in writing and verbal with all supervisors, senior level management staff, co-workers, and medical personnel.
