Position Title:

Clinical Social Worker Position Summary

The Clinical Social Worker is responsible for the overall functioning and communication within the Social Services Department. This role serves as an integral member of a multidisciplinary treatment team, providing, implementing, and assisting with supervision of social service interventions for patients.

The Clinical Social Worker collaborates with clinical departments through consultation with medical staff, the Director of Nursing (DON), and nursing staff to support coordinated patient care.

This role facilitates resolution of identified patient concerns and ensures services, programming, and psychosocial needs are met with the highest quality of care. The Clinical Social Worker is expected to demonstrate understanding and interpretation of facility policies to ensure compliance.

The role requires strong knowledge of cognitive, emotional, developmental, social, and behavioral disorders. Responsibilities include crisis intervention, case conferences, family communication, and leadership in treatment team meetings.

Additional duties include participation in performance improvement initiatives and quality management (QM) activities. The Clinical Social Worker adheres to the highest ethical standards in patient care and rights and facilitates communication with outside agencies to ensure patient needs are met.

While performing duties, the employee may occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles. Noise levels may range from moderate to high. The environment may include cleaning chemicals, dust, mist, and steam generated by housekeeping tasks.

This is a smoke-free workplace.

The role requires working approximately 75% or more of the time inside a controlled indoor environment.

Tuberculosis testing documentation is required during new hire orientation and annually thereafter.

Physical Requirements

This Position Requires

  • Standing for extended periods (60–80% of shift)
  • Sitting for up to 4 hours at a time
  • Walking and movement throughout the shift
  • Lifting and/or carrying items over 10 pounds

Additional Requirements Include

  • Repetitive motion tasks
  • Ability to hear alarms, telephone, and spoken communication
  • Ability to communicate verbally and effectively
  • Visual ability including near/far acuity, depth perception, and color recognition

This role involves working in a high-stress, fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions and potential exposure to psychiatric patients in acute and crisis situations.

Exposure Category

Category II – Potential exposure to blood, bodily fluids, or tissues.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, And Experience Education
  • Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited school of social work
Licensure
  • Current licensure through the appropriate State Regulatory Board for Social Workers
Experience
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a Behavioral Health setting as a Social Worker

  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Proficiency with PC systems
