Job Summary
The PET Technology Technician is responsible for performing positron emission tomography (PET) and PET/CT imaging procedures to assist physicians in diagnosing and monitoring disease. This role ensures high-quality imaging, patient safety, and compliance with radiation safety and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities- Perform PET and PET/CT imaging procedures according to established protocols
- Prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals in compliance with radiation safety standards
- Verify patient identity, review medical history, and explain procedures to patients
- Position patients accurately to obtain optimal diagnostic images
- Monitor patients during procedures and respond appropriately to adverse reactions
- Operate, calibrate, and perform basic troubleshooting of PET imaging equipment
- Maintain accurate patient records, imaging data, and documentation
- Adhere to ALARA principles and all local, state, and federal radiation regulations
- Collaborate with radiologists, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare staff
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized imaging environment
- Participate in quality assurance, quality control, and continuing education activities
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology or related field
- Certification by ARRT (N) and/or NMTCB required
- PET and/or PET/CT certification preferred (or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe)
- Valid state licensure where required
- Knowledge of radiopharmaceutical handling and radiation safety
- Strong attention to detail and patient care skills
- Proficiency in PET and PET/CT imaging systems
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team
- Physical ability to assist and position patients safely
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR)
