Psychologist
The psychologist performs Medical Disability Examinations (MDE) for veterans who file disability claims for mental health conditions such as PTSD, depression, anxiety, etc., through the Veterans Benefits Administration as part of the Compensation and Pension Program. Comprehensive mental health exams require a mental health assessment and medical opinions but no treatment.
Pay:
Base + Monthly incentive plan = $ – $
- Standard outpatient assessments/evaluations
- Psychological / neuropsychological testing service requests
- Participate in peer consultations, staff meetings, and trainings; responsible for entering determinations within VA guideline requirements; perform other duties as directed by the reviewer’s manager
- Conduct non‑MD clinical reviews of requests for psychological or neuropsychological testing during a typical workday
- Perform comprehensive mental health examinations (MDE) including PTSD, depression, MST, anxiety, and eating disorder
- Write medical opinions as the subject‑matter expert for mental health claims
- Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and VA rules and procedures
- Perform one‑time, no‑treatment examinations for C&P mental health claims
- Licensed doctoral‑level (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) psychologist
- License current, unrestricted, and allow for full independent practice
- 2+ years of post‑licensure experience
- Computer skills, including Windows OS, Outlook, Word, Teams, and Excel
- Secure workspace and ability to install high‑speed internet at home
- Attended an APA‑approved school or doctorate program
- Experience performing C&P exams (preferred but not required)
- Diplomate of the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP)
- ASPPB Certificate of Professional Qualification (CPQ)
- Experience in managed care settings
- Experience performing peer reviews
- Experience with commercial, Medicaid, and Medicare lines of business
- Experience with CPT and HCPCS codes
- Clinical experience in higher levels of care (Intensive Outpatient)
- Clinical experience with children and adolescents
- Clinical experience with substance‑abuse diagnoses
- Clinical experience with evidence‑based treatment
- Advanced computer skills using Excel and Access databases
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills to prioritize multiple demands within strict turnaround requirements
- Strong written and verbal communication and negotiation skills
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with others on a clinical team
- Comfortable with fast‑paced, changing environment
