Specialty Pharmacy Clinical Pharmacist

Location: Prairieville

This job maintains and ensures complete and appropriate drug therapy in a multidisciplinary pharmaceutical care environment. The role assumes responsibility for the management of pharmacy services, ensuring that patients receive complete and appropriate drug therapy and improving patient outcomes. Responsibilities include providing drug information to patients and healthcare providers, resolving prior authorizations and insurance billing, overseeing the Patient Advocate team, performing drug utilization review, and collaborating with the Specialty Fulfillment team to ensure timely receipt of medications and compliance with drug therapy.

Specialty Pharmacy Overview Ochsner Specialty Pharmacy is part of Ochsner Health System and is the largest integrated delivery network (IDN) specialty pharmacy in our region. We manage specialty medications that require intensive patient management and sometimes special handling, providing personalized patient management services such as training, comprehensive treatment assessment, and patient monitoring. Our patient‑centric model is designed to support adherence, proper medication use, and superior clinical and economic outcomes.

Education

• Required – Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy
• Preferred – Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD)

Work Experience

• Required – None
• Preferred – 2 years experience as a pharmacist; experience in specialty pharmacy
• Preferred – Completion of a pharmacy residency

Certification

• Required – License to practice Pharmacy by the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy
• Preferred – Multi‑state licensure

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

• Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
• Must be proficient with Windows‑style applications, various software packages specific to the role, and keyboard usage.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Job Duties

• Perform patient assessment and care.

• Maintain documentation related to the job.

• Perform all job duties in accordance with Ochsner Specialty Pharmacy policies and accrediting bodies.
• Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, introduction methods, explanation of services or procedures, permission requests, and communication style.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Physical and Environmental Demands

The physical essential functions of this job include exerting 10 to 20 pounds of force to move objects and, occasionally, up to 100 pounds of force.
