A hotel housekeeping room attendant is responsible for cleaning, maintaining, and restocking guest rooms and common areas to ensure a comfortable and welcoming environment for guests.
Core Responsibilities Room Cleaning and Maintenance:Room attendants clean guest rooms according to hotel standards, including making beds, changing linens, dusting, vacuuming, and sanitizing bathrooms. They remove trash, clean mirrors, windows, and surfaces, and ensure all amenities such as toiletries, towels, and refreshments are replenished.
Guest Interaction and Service:Attendants respond to guest requests, provide additional supplies, and maintain a courteous and professional demeanor. They may greet guests in hallways or common areas and assist with inquiries, contributing to overall guest satisfaction.
Inventory and Supply Management:Room attendants manage their cleaning carts, keeping linens, towels, cleaning chemicals, and amenities organized for efficiency and safety. They also check room inventories and report shortages or maintenance issues to supervisors.
Common Area Cleaning:Beyond guest rooms, attendants may clean lobbies, hallways, restrooms, and other public spaces to maintain a clean and inviting hotel environment.
Safety and Reporting:Attendants report maintenance issues, safety hazards, or damages in rooms and public areas. They follow hotel safety protocols, including proper handling of cleaning chemicals and ensuring carts do not block emergency exits.
Physical and Operational RequirementsThe role is physically demanding, requiring lifting, bending, standing for long periods, and pushing loaded carts. Efficient body mechanics and time management are essential to sustain performance over multiple rooms per shift, typically 12–18 rooms.
Attendants may also perform laundry duties, including washing, ironing, and folding linens.
Skills and QualificationsKey skills include attention to detail, time management, customer service, and basic knowledge of cleaning procedures. Formal education is not always required, but experience in hospitality or custodial work is advantageous.
