Avalo specializes in providing a risk-based approach to payment services, catering to financial institutions across the globe. We are dedicated to modernizing cross-border payments by developing innovative tools that combine financial technology (fintech) and regulatory technology (regtech). Our solutions address emerging regulatory challenges while empowering underserved financial institutions and their customers to connect with global markets effectively.
Role Overview:
The Senior Technical Lead will have end-to-end technical ownership of Avalo’s software platform. This role combines architecture, hands-on development, contractor oversight, and strategic decision-making.
You will be responsible for:
● The quality of the codebase
● The soundness of the system architecture
● The effectiveness of engineering execution
● Ensuring the platform supports regulatory, operational, and client requirements
Candidates are expected to not only be managers within our organization, but are expected to build, review, and lead.
Job Responsibilities:
● Own the end-to-end architecture of the Avalo platform, balancing reliability, scalability, security, and maintainability in a regulated fintech environment.
● Design and enforce API-first, modular architectures that support third-party integrations, internal workflows, and regulatory constraints.
● Establish and maintain development best practices, coding standards, and review processes.
● Implement software and test suites in our tech stack (Type Script, Angular, Express, MySQL, Docker) or with other tools as suits the challenge.
● Establish and evolve development processes, release discipline, and quality standards that support frequent, reliable delivery in a production fintech system.
● Oversee the work of our development contractors to ensure their work meets our specifications and standard of quality.
● Guide our long-term, big-picture technical decisions. Help us determine what technology we should be using.
● Set our development practices and coding standards.
● Partner with other leaders in the Company to set scope and schedule of projects. Communicate regularly until the job is done.
● Work with developers from vendors and client on projects like API integrations and custom feature development.
● Own system reliability and operational readiness, including performance monitoring, error handling, logging, and incident response.
● Design systems that support auditability, traceability, and regulatory review, including clear data lineage and state transitions.
● Actively identify and reduce technical debt, balancing speed of delivery with long-term maintainability.
● Partner with Product and Compliance to translate regulatory requirements into pragmatic technical solutions, not overbuilt abstractions.
● Own the observability and logging architecture, including centralized logging, metrics, and monitoring (e.g., Elasticsearch, Kibana, Filebeat), ensuring production visibility, audit readiness, and effective incident response.
● Maintain disaster recovery and business continuity architecture, including backup strategies, failover mechanisms, and recovery procedures aligned with regulatory expectations (RTO/RPO).
