Company Overview

28bio is a neurotechnology company engineering human brains at-scale exhibiting memory, learning, and cognitive functions. Its Nexon™ platform integrates tissue engineering, neural interfacing, and AI to reverse today’s neurological health crisis by improving the ability to predict which therapies will work in humans. The Nexon™ platform also incorporates Organoid Intelligence (OI). The growing field of OI combines human brain organoids with brain-machine interfaces to model memory, learning, and cognition in vitro, offering novel functional cognitive biomarkers with the potential to reshape drug development in neurodegenerative disorders including Alzheimer’s disease.

The Nexon™ platform is now being used to improve the prediction of therapeutic efficacy and toxicity in humans, with several of the world’s largest pharma companies already integrating Nexon™ into their drug development workflows.

Role Summary

We are seeking a highly driven and scientifically rigorous Field Application Scientist with deep expertise in preclinical drug discovery and replacing animal models with organoid models to predict clinical toxicity and efficacy. This role will work closely with our sales team to provide customers with scientific and technology support and ensure our scientific value proposition is appropriately positioned and communicated. The ideal candidate brings hands‑on experience in neurological preclinical drug development, the use of healthy and diseased models, animal models and organoid models.

This position combines strong model expertise with commercial acumen to accelerate platform adoption and drive revenue growth in drug discovery accounts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Pre‑sales Scientific Engagement
    • Partner closely with Sales to support strategic pharma, biotech, academic and CRO opportunities
    • Lead high‑level scientific discussions with discovery, translational, and preclinical teams
    • Position brain and nerve 3D organoids within drug discovery pipelines (target validation, mechanism‑of‑action, safety screening, disease modeling)
    • Deliver tailored technical presentations, product demonstrations, and proof‑of‑concept support
    • Contribute to RFP responses, technical evaluations, and scientific due diligence discussions
  • Post‑Sales Implementation & Customer Success
    • Ensure seamless workflow integration with customer teams
    • Provide consultative support across program milestones
    • Identify expansion opportunities within multi‑asset or multi‑site organizations
  • Market & Thought Leadership
    • Build relationships with key opinion leaders in neuroscience and drug discovery
    • Represent the company at industry conferences and consortia
    • Contribute to white papers, case studies, and scientific marketing materials
  • Cross‑Functional Collaboration
    • Act as the voice of the customer to Product and R&D teams
    • Inform roadmap development
    • Collaborate with Marketing to refine positioning for industry segment audiences
    • Support long‑term strategic account planning alongside sales
  • Candidate Profile

    Required Experience & Expertise

    • PhD in Neuroscience, Pharmacology, Stem Cell Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or related field (or MS with significant industry experience)
    • Direct experience in preclinical drug discovery within pharma, biotech, CRO, or translational research settings
    • Hands‑on experience in iPSC‑derived systems, organoids, MPS, or advanced in vitro CNS platforms
    • Strong understanding of translational strategy and drug development milestones
    • Excellent communication skills and comfort engaging with both bench scientists and executive stakeholders
    • Willingness to travel (30–50%)
    • Experience with high‑content imaging, in vitro electrophysiology, multi‑omics, or AI‑enabled phenotypic screening
    • Prior experience in field applications, scientific sales, or customer‑facing roles
    Benefits
    • Performance-based commission
    • 401(k) + employer match
