Role Summary

The IS Security Operations Analyst is a member of the Security Operations Center (SOC) team responsible for monitoring the Ochsner computer network environment for potential security threats. Security Analysts work with and learn from experienced security team leaders and use the latest technology to detect, analyze, and limit intrusions and security events. Candidates must be willing to work in a 24x7x365 SOC environment, demonstrate intuitive problem‑solving skills, and allow for flexible scheduling.

The SOC Analyst must be competent and able to work in complex technical systems to identify threats, and threat vectors that lead to security events.

Education

Required – High School diploma or equivalent

Preferred – Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or related field

Certification

Preferred: SANS GIAC / ISC² CISSIP or other advanced security certifications, ITIL

Work Experience

Required – 0–2 years IT experience with a Bachelor's degree OR 2–4 years IT experience with an Associate's degree OR relevant experience

Preferred: 2 years of experience related to IS Security / Cybersecurity

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)
  • Fundamental understanding of computer networking (TCP/IP)
  • Security‑relevant knowledge and experience (security operations, security configuration and deployment models, threat detection/response, incident detection/response, investigations, forensics)
  • Knowledge of Windows, Linux, and mobile operating systems
  • Must be able to translate complex security‑related matters into business terms readily understood by colleagues
  • Experience with regulations and frameworks – e.g., HIPAA, PCI, NIST
  • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally
  • Must be proficient with Windows‑style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency working with databases, online solutions and programming languages
  • Analytical skills and logical thought processes to formulate solutions to problems
  • Ability to work under stressful situations so that communications with users, IS staff, and vendors remain objective and professional at all times
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and frequent changes in priorities
  • Move through the hospital and off‑campus sites
  • Ability for occasional out of town travel
  • Flexible scheduling such as working nights, weekends, extended shifts, etc.
Job Duties
  • Performs network security monitoring and incident response
  • Maintains records of security monitoring and incident response activities, utilizing case management and ticketing technologies
  • Monitors and analyzes Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) and Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) to identify security issues for remediation
  • Facilitates the day‑to‑day operation of the infrastructure and maintains proper levels of system and data availability
  • Provides installation and support of the technology infrastructure
  • Installs and maintains technology‑related devices
  • Coordinates multiple projects including personnel and resource coordination, documentation and management reporting
  • Provides Level III Network Server and Infrastructure Support and coordinates and schedules activities with PC Support staff
  • Develops and promotes the use of standards, policies and procedures governing use and management of technology systems
  • Participates in training, professional development and quality improvement activities
  • Other related duties as required
