- Gather information from multiple sources to perform underwriting analysis and support unit objectives
- Review individual risks for acceptability and manage larger, complex accounts
- Underwrite new business, renewals, and endorsements based on company guidelines
- Communicate with agents and internal partners to facilitate underwriting processes
- Educate and train less experienced underwriting staff on processes and tools
- A minimum of six years of commercial lines underwriting experience
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience preferred
- Completion of INS, AU, or similar designations with progress toward CIC and/or CPCU preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for interaction with internal and external contacts
- Ability to analyze insurance risks and recommend solutions to work-related problems
- Experience in middle market commercial lines underwriting
- Knowledge of commercial underwriting policies, practices, and procedures
- Familiarity with state and federal insurance laws and regulations
- Ability to analyze portfolio data and develop action plans
- Leadership skills to train and guide lower-level commercial underwriters
