We are searching for a Purchasing Agent in our Harahan, LA office.

JOB TITLE: Purchasing Agent

DEPARTMENT: Purchasing

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

SUMMARY

DESCRIPTION:

Toensure the most cost-effective and timely way to provide the vessels with groceries, fuel, and supplies.

SUPERVISION:

Reports to:

Manager of Crew Travel & Purchasing

This position has no supervisory responsibilities

ESSENTIAL

JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Track fuel costs on a daily basis.
  • Communicate with all vessels on adaily basis regarding their location, fuel consumption and destination tomake sure that deliveries are taken at the optimum times.
  • Coordinate the delivery of supplies to vessels directly.
  • Research and obtain quotes toensure the most cost efficient and highest quality supplies for vessels.
  • Communicate directly with the fuel vendorsto inform them of future deliveries of fuel and what that specific needwill be.
  • Complete Purchase Orders and review accuracy of prices and quantities on a daily basis and maintain organized and updated files.
  • Handle and input invoices. Guarantee all figures coincide with the Purchase Orders.
  • Track all fuel and lube purchases by gallon on a regular basis.
  • Track all purchases for assigned vessels
  • Track all internal purchases forboth Harahan and Channelview Offices.
  • Supply vessels with current supply catalogs so that Captains stay informed of current prices to control their individual budgets.
  • Prepare presentation for the annual

    Captain’s Meeting.
  • Stock new boats with all supplies needed for start-up.
  • Assist Purchasing Manager on yearly budget for fuel and supplies.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned bythe Purchasing Manager, Vice President of Purchasing and/or the President of the Company.
  • Requires being on call 24 hours aday, seven days a week.
  • Operate a forklift and perform safety checks.
  • Perform inventory checks;reordering, receiving and storing supplies.
  • Responsible for warehouse maintenance.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be able to read, write and speak clearly in the English language.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one to three years related experience and/or training preferred.
  • Knowledge of Marine industry aplus.
  • Proficiency in or knowledge of avariety of computer software applications, including but not limited to Excel and Microsoft Word software.
  • High level of interpersonal skillsto handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation.
  • Knowledge of office administration procedures.
  • Ability to operate most standard office equipment.
  • Attention to detail in composing,typing and proofing materials, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain aTWIC card.
  • Must maintain a clear driving record and be insurable through our automobile insurance carrier.
LANGUAGE SKILLS

Abilityto read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Abilityto apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Abilityto define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires driving a vehicle as necessary for errands and business related meetings. Employee and/or applicant must successfully complete a Motor Vehicle History check and possess and maintain a current valid driver's license in their state of residence.

Travel to/from tugboats within local areas as required. Occasional overnight travelmay be required.
