Summary

In collaboration with the Associate Vice President of Research Administration (AVP of RA), the Associate Director of Operations, Research Administration Service Units, works closely with senior leaders to advance strategic priorities. The Associate Director will manage the finance, operations and special projects of the Research Administration Service Units, Sponsored Projects Administration (SPA), and Office of Research Proposal Development (ORPD).

The Associate Director provides project management and strategic support for the AVP of RA; leads, facilitates, manages, and/or tracks high-priority projects and activities; communicates critical project updates and changes that require escalation to the AVP of RA; and works closely with the AVP of RA's leadership team to support and ensure follow-through for projects and activities.

The Associate Director will manage one or more administrative support staff.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Proven track record of successfully managing complex projects from conception to completion, including experience in strategic planning, budget management, and stakeholder engagement
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, prioritize tasks for multiple simultaneous projects, and problem-solve in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with diverse stakeholders and navigate complex organizational structures
  • Demonstrated capacity to work both collaboratively and independently, to exercise sound judgment, and to handle sensitive and confidential matters appropriately
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and innovation, with a proactive approach to identifying opportunities for enhancing processes, systems, and practices to drive efficiency and effectiveness in research administration
  • Ability to manage a multi-unit budget of over $10 million
  • Ability to lead hiring functions for multiple departments with 100+ employees
Required Education And/or Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years of progressive experience in research administration, higher education, project management, financial management, or a related field, preferably in the area of higher education.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree
  • 10 years of related experiences
  • Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) or Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification
