Department Student Affairs Operations

Job Summary The Director of Residential Life is responsible for providing overall leadership and supervision to a residential housing community of approximately 880 students in traditional residence halls, sorority housing and graduate student married/family apartments. The Director is responsible for overseeing the supervising and training of staff, preparing and monitoring of the residential life budgets, overseeing conference housing, working collaboratively with Facility Services to ensure accountability and project flow for facility maintenance and custodial vendors, implementing and adhering to administrative policies and procedures, and developing residential student communities.

Job Description
60% ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develops strategic goals and objectives for residential life.
  • Prepares and manages budgets for residential life, residential activities, and residential maintenance.
  • Recruits, hires, trains and supervises Assistant Director and other residential life personnel.
  • Works closely with contracted facility services personnel for maintenance and housekeeping issues and facility projects/ planning activities.
  • Assists in the establishment and implementation of administrative policies, procedures, and programs for residential life.
  • Works closely with the Director of Accessibility Services for disability accommodations and the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs in managing student accountability processes and reporting.
  • Reviews and updates resident handbooks, leases, annual rates, brochures and the residential life website in a timely manner.
  • Serves as super user for housing software (Adirondack: The Housing Director), student conduct software (Guardian/ Beacon), security platform (Persona), etc.
  • Works collaboratively with Information Technology to identify technology needs and create a strategy for onboarding and adjusting technology to meet the community needs.
  • Works cooperatively with Privateer Place management on marketing strategies and recruiting, programming for residential students.
  • Serves on relevant safety committees including Student Care Network and Hurricane Preparedness Team, coordinating residential life staff duties and response to inclement weather emergencies and campus evacuations impacting residential students.
30% STUDENT DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNITY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensures the development and implementation of programs and services designed to meet the unique needs of students living in on campus housing.
  • Works closely with Enrollment Management, Student Affairs and Academic Affairs to establish and maintain Living Learning Communities in residential communities.
  • Works with LSU New Orleans Police and Counseling Services personnel to provide outreach programs or emergency assistance.
  • Participates in student recruitment and orientation events and serves on various committees to promote the recruitment and retention of students.
  • Assures a quality meal plan program by working closely with the Director of Auxiliary Services and the Director of Campus Dining.
  • Oversees the design and instruction of Graduate Assistant training.
  • Oversees the design and instruction of Resident Assistant, Office Assistant and Desk Assistant training.
10% OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Works closely with other unit managers to coordinate special events and projects.
  • Coordinates special departmental projects as requested and required.
  • Performs other similar and related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in a Residential Life setting.
  • Experience working with Excel and Word.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s Degree
  • Experience with Facilities Management.
  • Experience working in a Student Affairs environment.
SALARY RANGE

$65,000 - $70,000
