Job Title: 911 Assistant Operations Manager Reports To: 911 Operations Manager FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Job Type: Full time, In office Starting Salary: $35.80/hour – scheduled 84 hours in a two-week period , with additional scheduled overtime hours for training and shift preparation; additional management meetings and training will be periodically scheduled and paid in accordance with law and policy .

First Responder/Essential Employee Status:
This position is defined as first responder according to the Federal Labor Standards Act and the intentions of the Louisiana Revised Statutes 33:9103 and 33:9124. This position is designated as Emergency Personnel and will be required to report for duty during declared emergencies of any size. Failure to report could result in immediate dismissal.
This position assists with the management of the operations for the Agency’s 911 Public Safety Communication Dispatch Center. This position provides supervision and direction to 911 communication dispatch center staff; plans and manages emergency communication center, uses considerable discretion; and stays aware of emergency communications needs. The 911 communication center provides 24hr emergency and non-emergency call taking and dispatch services for law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services.
Work is performed under the general direction of the Operations Manager.
- Coordinates the work of the Operations Supervisors and monitors their performance to ensure effective operations.
- Attend conferences, conventions or other various meetings and training to stay up to date on trends in emergency services and technical services, policy, and procedures.
- Perform sensitive and confidential duties in the course of work or on behalf of the Operations Manager.
- Serve as acting Operations Manager in the Operations Manager’s absence.
- Assist the Operations Manager with the management and evaluation of daily operational and administrative activities related to PSAP.
- Manages and supervises 9-1-1 communications center staff. Oversee adequate staffing levels for assigned shifts, by maintaining the master scheduling of Emergency Communications Specialist for all shifts and ensures that the necessary adjustments are made in shift schedules if needed.
- Maintains a favorable working relationship with all other employees to foster and promote a cooperative and harmonious working climate which will be conducive to maximum employee morale, productivity, and efficiency/effectiveness.
- Oversee the operations, activities, and personnel of the communications center to assure compliance of established guidelines, procedures, and policies.
- Maintains a formal and informal network of communications with other 9-1-1 centers and user agencies on issues relating to 9-1-1.
- Assists in the interpreting of 9-1-1 policies and procedures to employees, user agencies and the public.
- Maintains a high level of knowledge and understanding of 9-1-1 policies and procedures and understanding of other appropriate manuals that provide thorough knowledge of 9-1-1 operations and procedures. Follows policies and procedures and ensures that 9-1-1 staff adheres to same.
- Proficient in using Protocols for EMS, fire, and law enforcement.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Maintains a high level of knowledge and skill regarding the equipment, policies, procedures, and techniques of 9-1-1 call taking and dispatching.
- Actively seeks ideas and promotes ways to raise the standards of 9-1-1 operations.
- Maintains proficiency in all related duties of a Telecommunicator.
- Maintains proficiency at operating a variety of 9-1-1 dispatch communications equipment, including radio consoles and paging units, multiline telephone system, logging recorder, CAD software, computer software programs, and other equipment.
