Job Overview

The Director - Contracts & Utilization (sign‑on bonus) negotiates contracts, maintains compliance, and manages supply utilization for a book of business. The director leads cost‑redirection initiatives, product standardization, and product change initiatives across the health system, serving as a project manager, consultant to clinical and non‑clinical areas, and an internal advocate for product utilization initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Review current and existing contracts to identify expirations and coordinate renewal dispositions with stakeholders.
  • Manage communications and conduct clinical literature research to support target actions.
  • Provide leadership and clinicians with product utilization, pricing, and quality data to enable cost‑effective purchasing decisions.
  • Consult with users throughout the organization to identify, analyze, and facilitate implementation of non‑salary expense cost reductions.
  • Develop quantitative and qualitative analyses and methodologies for driving cost‑reduction efforts.
  • Perform related duties as required.
Qualifications Education:
  • Required – Bachelor’s degree.
  • Preferred – Master’s degree.
Work Experience:
  • Required – 10 years of purchasing experience in healthcare, or 5 years of experience with a master’s degree.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to present information clearly and professionally to various levels.
  • Knowledge of MMIS systems and ability to manage a preprogrammed database.
  • Self‑directed with ability to manage major projects with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent organizational and time‑management skills; exercise good judgment and handle difficult situations.
  • Availability to travel throughout and between facilities and work a flexible schedule (e.g., 24/7, weekend, holiday, on‑call).
Physical and Environmental Demands

Light work:
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force constantly. Requires walking or standing to a significant degree, and may involve pushing or pulling of materials at a production rate pace. The role does not involve exposure to blood, bodily fluids, or tissue, and does not require emergency care or first aid.

Occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or waste may exist in the healthcare environment.
