Job Description SummaryLeads team members to identify, manage, and execute the plant’s process improvement opportunities. Manages production staff to attain production and quality goals. Identifies problems or bottlenecks in production processes and resolves issues. Ensures production resources including materials, equipment, and human resources are available as needed to maintain production schedules. Supports continuous improvement goals in safety, quality, cost, and customer service. Responsible for managing and owning various functions of the business and creating an engaged and team‑oriented workforce to improve business results.
Job Responsibilities- Be able to work weekends and/or shift work, including evenings and graveyard shifts.
- Direct the processing activity in the plant including supervision of the hourly workforce in planning, equipment operation and repair, materials usage, scheduling of operations, training, etc. Responsible for quality, safety and sanitation in the plant.
- Coordinate and implement the planned sanitation and housekeeping program to ensure environment meets company and federal standards.
- Train and supervise subordinates in safety and accident prevention practices.
- Administer plant and human resource policies to assure satisfactory employee relations.
- Work closely with Quality Assurance, Sanitation, Warehouse and Maintenance personnel, as well as other Production Supervisors on shift.
- Ensure compliance with USDA and FDA food laws, company policies, and relevant employment laws (EEO, OSHA, etc.).
- Be familiar with factors affecting recovery, grade yields, labor costs, labor utilization and material waste.
- Understand basic operating characteristics of each piece of equipment under control; recommend adjustments to operators and maintain highest productivity.
- Ensure proper training of all personnel and ensure operators recognize discrepancies and make adjustments or repairs prior to appreciable loss of productivity.
Supervises a total of 20-70 employees in the areas of Quality and Production. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws, including training employees, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Basic Qualifications- Effectively communicates in English verbally and in writing. Understands instructions and follows directions.
- Reads and interprets documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Writes routine reports and correspondence. Speaks effectively before groups of customers or employees.
- Mathematical skills: adds, subtracts, multiplies, divides, computes rates, ratios, percentages, and interprets bar graphs.
- Reasoning ability: solves practical problems and deals with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; interprets instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Computer skills: knowledge of manufacturing software, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Outlook.
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four‑year accredited college or university or three years related experience. Completion of internal LW Process Quality (PQ) program.
The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk or hear, lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds, and may need to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, sit, climb or balance, and taste or smell.
