Job Summary
This position is responsible for designing, fabricating, repairing, and maintaining metal sheet structures on rigs, ships, and barges.
Responsibilities- Inspect, measure, adjust and test completed metal work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications.
- Read blueprints, work orders or production schedules to determine product or job instructions or specifications.
- Assemble, align and clamp work pieces into holding fixtures for bonding, heat‑treating or soldering.
- Set up, operate and maintain welding machines/equipment that join or bond components.
- Heat and grind metal parts and components using hand tools, torch or other welding equipment.
- Fabricate and fit substrates as required.
- Monitor welding, burning and fitting processes to ensure parts are not overheated or damaged.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment by complying with all safety procedures, rules and regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalent (Education required).
- Intermediate to advanced understanding of mechanical maintenance and knowledge of machines and tools.
- Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
- Basic mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
- Ability to read and understand measurements and blueprints.
- Ability to follow direction and use logical thought processes to interpret instructions and recommend solutions.
- Ability to complete documentation requirements.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to remain focused on customer service both internally and externally.
- Ability to use tools appropriate for assigned tasks.
- Ability to lift, push, pull 50 lbs.
- Ability to climb, crawl, stoop, kneel and squat occasionally.
- Manual dexterity with small objects.
- Arm/hand steadiness and multi‑limb coordination.
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders to significant heights.
- Ability to work around water.
- Ability to grasp and reach frequently.
- Ability to communicate verbally in person and over two‑way radio.
- Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
- Ability to work in confined spaces.
- Ability to work in environments with high dust levels.

- Good visual acuity for tasks such as reading and operating a computer terminal.
