Overview
Mission Statement: The mission of Sexual Trauma Awareness & Response® (STAR®) is to support survivors of sexual trauma, improve systems response, and create social change to end sexual violence.
Position Summary: The Resource Advocate performs a variety of duties involved in providing support and advocacy for the rights and protection of survivors of sexual trauma. The Resource Advocate is responsible for assessing the individual survivor's needs and works with community resources to fulfill needs, including shelter, counseling, referrals, food, property return, and general advocacy and support. The Resource Advocate assists with the daily operations of advocacy services and ensures that all data and client documentation is appropriately maintained.
Classification: 40 hours/week (Full-time/Non-exempt)
Reports to: Advocacy Manager
Home Office: New Orleans
Responsibilities- Client Services – Provide comprehensive case management and advocacy services to sexual assault survivors, conduct safety planning and need assessments with all survivors, travel within STAR's service area as needed to offer accompaniment and support to clients, and follow up with clients to ensure ongoing support and resources.
- Documentation & File Management – Record all client interactions and upload all documents to the organization's centralized database in a timely manner; ensure that client files are complete, well-organized, and up-to-date.
- Community Engagement – Connect survivors with additional services throughout the community as needed, represent STAR at meetings with community partners, and participate in special community outreach activities including STAR 101 presentations, tabling events, community events, STAR fundraisers, facilitation of Sexual Trauma 101 and other relevant training sessions; attend and actively participate in meetings with community partners.
- Grant Compliance – Ensure completion of grant deliverables within required timelines and assist with the preparation of grant reports and documentation required by funders.
- Other Responsibilities – Clock in and out using the organization's timekeeping system, actively participate in Advocacy Team meetings and huddles, participate in monthly check‑ins and 1‑1 meetings with the Advocacy Manager, submit monthly mileage and reimbursement documentation, attend staff meetings and maintain continuing education requirements, submit mandated reports to DCFS and law enforcement as required by Louisiana law, and participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.
STAR requires all employees to consent to and successfully complete a full background investigation, which includes a criminal history check and fingerprinting.
