Wound Care Nurse

Overview

The wound care nurse will work closely with physicians, mid-level providers, nurses, CNAs, infection control department, patients, and family members. The wound care nurse will carry out the treatment plans as ordered by the physician and document work performed in the electronic health record (EHR).

• Carry out treatment plans as ordered by the physician.
• Document work performed in the electronic health record (EHR).
• Collaborate with the health care team to ensure wound care is delivered as prescribed.

• Education:
  
  Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN).
• Experience:
  
  Two years nursing experience preferred.
• Job Knowledge:
  Ability to document work clearly and precisely in the EHR. Wound care experience preferred, but not required. Ability to obtain education to acquire a wound care certification, if requested by director or required by CMS guidelines.

• Must be a self-starter, and able to maintain numerous projects at one time.
• Ability to tolerate unpleasant aspects of wounds such as undesirable smells and sights.
• Must have the ability to assess patients' skin and suggest ways to avoid breakdowns.
• Monitor wounds for changes and possible signs of infection, then report promptly to nurse and physician caring for patient.
• Must be familiar with infection control prevention, in addition to hospital's policies and procedures for prevention.
• Must be familiar with and willing to learn proper dressing changes and wound cleansing procedures.
