Job Overview
This role functions within a collaborative model, working with residents, fellows, attendings, and staff to care for hospital medicine patients on the Medical Center floors. It operates under the supervision of the Medical Director or an approved staff physician and in partnership with PCCs, staff nurses, and discharge coordinators.
Key Responsibilities- Plan, implement, and evaluate medical and nursing care for primary and urgent medical management, including emergency stabilization of all critically ill patients.
- Teach residents, medical students, and support staff development and education.
- Provide patient education and discharge planning.
- Participate in teaching and staff development programs.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Computer skills for data entry and retrieval of job information.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Windows-style applications and specific software related to the role.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Working knowledge of Advanced Practice Provider policies and protocols.
- Reliable transportation to travel throughout and between facilities.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including 24/7, weekends, holidays, and on‑call availability.
- Master’s degree in Nursing (required).
- Bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant medicine or Health Sciences, or graduate of an approved Physician Assistant Training Program (required).
- None required.
- Preferred: 3 years of related working experience.
- Current License as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of practice (required).
- Family Nurse Practitioner or Adult/Geriatric Nurse Practitioner certification by ANCC or AANPCP (required).
- Family Nurse Practitioner or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner certification by ANCC or AANPCP (required).
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification from the American Heart Association (required).
- Eligible for Prescriptive Authority in the state of practice as outlined by the State Board of Nursing (required).
- License as a Physician Assistant in the state of practice and NCCPA certification, with BCLS/ACLS (required).
- Eligible for Prescriptive Authority as outlined by the State Board of Medical Examiners (required).
Medium Work:
May require lifting 20–50 pounds occasionally or 10–25 pounds frequently, plus potential greater than negligible force to move objects. Must be able to stand for prolonged periods, stoop, bend, reach, and manipulate with manual dexterity. Duties may involve exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissue, as well as communicable diseases and hazardous medications or waste in a healthcare setting.
