Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections – Corrections Services, Elayn Hunt Correctional Center, St. Gabriel, LA.

Mission: promote public safety and strengthen communities through fair, professional, and responsive corrections services.

• Provide direct patient care, including comfort, hygiene, safety, nutrition, and overall well‑being, under RN or senior LPN guidance.
• Monitor and assess patients, promptly reporting changes in physical or mental status to the healthcare team.
• Collect specimens, perform diagnostic tests, and accurately record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure).
• Administer medications and treatments safely, following established protocols and documenting care accurately.
• Participate in shift handovers, ensuring continuity of care and clear communication with the team.
• Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, maintaining safety and efficiency.
• Respond to emergencies, including performing CPR and first aid as needed.
• Manage inventory and supplies, requesting and restocking medications and equipment to support patient care.

Possession of a current Louisiana Practical Nurse license, a temporary permit, or a multi‑state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state.

• Appointment Type:
  Probationary or promotion of a permanent, classified Louisiana State employee.
• Permanent status may require accepting a probationary appointment.
• A promotion may require a trial detail prior to permanent promotion.
• The posting may also be used to fill a temporary appointment; if filled as temporary, may convert to probationary upon permanent vacancy.

• LPN 1:
  Special Entrance Rate of $19.48 per hour.
• LPN 2:
  Special Entrance Rate of $20.84 per hour.
• LPN 3:
  Special Entrance Rate of $22.30 per hour.
• Premium pay of $5.00 per hour for each hour worked, in addition to regular pay.
