This job works collaboratively under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse to maintain patient safety and provide for the delivery of basic patient care. The employee may provide constant observation of the patient, notify nursing personnel of changes in behavior or status, and intervene as needed to maintain patient safety. The employee communicates effectively with co‑workers, patients, family and visitors, and performs all functions delegated by the nurse staff in accordance with policies and procedures.
EducationHigh School diploma or equivalent.
Work ExperienceExcellent planning, organizing, and time‑management skills; ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast‑paced environment with minimal supervision; basic computer skills.
CertificationsCurrent Louisiana Certification as a Nurses’ Assistant (CNA), Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association, Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) accreditation.

(KSAs)
- Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information, including proficiency with Windows applications and keyboard use.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Excellent time‑management skills.
- Assist with the plan of care as delegated by staff nurse within scope of practice.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment in the patient care area.
- Provide care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety and related criteria appropriate to the ages of patients served in assigned areas.
- Communicate patient care needs effectively with patients, families, and other staff members, including multidisciplinary teams.
- Complete documentation of patient‑related tasks.
- Maintain professional certifications and technical knowledge.
- Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, including respecting privacy, using appropriate introduction and explanation of services or procedures, requesting permissions, and modifying communication style.
- Remain knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensure compliance.
- Comply with the Ochsner Health System Compliance & Privacy Program and Standards of Conduct, including immediate reporting of any known or suspected unethical or questionable behaviors or conduct.

Physical and Environmental DemandsMedium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Requires walking or standing to a significant degree, may involve pushing or pulling arm or leg controls and working at a production rate pace. Physical demand requirements exceed those for sedentary work.
The job may involve lifting objects and using mechanical lifting devices such as carts or dollies. Must be able to stoop, bend, reach, and grab with arms and hands. Must be able to stand for prolonged periods. Must be able to work a flexible schedule (24/7, weekend, holiday, on call). Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid, and tissue.
The incumbent works in patient care areas and may be exposed to communicable diseases.
