The Division of Academic Affairs at the University of Southern Louisiana is committed to empowering a diverse student body through high‑quality academic programs. Adjunct instructors play a crucial role in preparing undergraduate nursing students to complete the BSN curriculum and pass the NCLEX‑RN by providing clinical instruction in the Skills Lab, Simulation Center, and affiliated clinical organizations.

• Foster a culture of inclusive excellence and serve as an educator and mentor to students.

• Teach assigned courses according to catalog descriptions and academic specifications.

• Deliver a complete course syllabus covering evaluation procedures, withdrawal policies, and attendance.

• Keep accurate and up‑to‑date records for all students.

• Submit grade reports by the required deadlines.

• Monitor and assess student learning outcomes and provide timely feedback.

• Collaborate with nursing faculty to deliver high‑quality instruction in online, in‑person, or hybrid formats.

• May supervise students at clinicals and teach 2‑3 sessions of on‑campus lab and simulation instruction.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Familiarize with and comply with agency policies and procedures.

• Complete required agency training, including electronic health records, HIPAA, and medication administration.

• Attend orientation for the Clinical Instructor role before student assignments.

• Orient staff nurses to student learning outcomes and clinical performance expectations.

• Encourage immediate communication about student performance with faculty and nursing staff.

• Communicate regularly with the unit nurse manager, including end‑of‑rotation reports.

• Meet with lead course faculty at semester start to review syllabus, learning outcomes, and resources.

• Confirm student assignments align with theory content.

• Review grading policies and Nursing Faculty and Student Handbook.

• Provide feedback on site adequacy and student evaluations to lead faculty.

• Complete simulation orientation and debrief training with the Simulation Lab Coordinator.

• Participate in ongoing communication with lead faculty regarding instructional issues and student progress.

• Serve as a professional role model and represent the School of Nursing to clinical site staff, students, and faculty.

• Direct, instruct, and guide students in the clinical setting, assigning patients based on learning needs.

• Assist students in collecting objective and subjective patient data and in using the nursing process.

• Facilitate the development of critical thinking, technical, and professional communication skills.

• Supervise medication administration and delegate tasks in accordance with student competence.

• Provide written instructions for emergencies and participate in Skills Lab and simulation as needed.

• Conduct pre‑ and post‑clinical conferences, maintain accurate records, and assign graded work promptly.

• Complete weekly, mid‑term, and final clinical evaluations for each student while maintaining confidentiality.

• Sensitivity to diverse student backgrounds.

• Adequate hearing, visual acuity, hand‑eye coordination, and dexterity for nursing tasks.

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing; or a Master of Science in Nursing degree or satisfactory progress toward one.

Registered Nurse license in Louisiana.

Minimum of three (3) years of clinical nursing experience in obstetrics.

Proficiency in electronic learning resources (ATI, CANVAS) and current AHA CPR certification.
