This is a Full-time Weekend Option position working Friday, Saturday/Sunday 7:00 A.M.
- 7:00 P.M. The Weekend Option CNA receives premium pay of base plus 60%.
Under the direction of a licensed nurse, the certified nurse assistant will assist in providing the care and treatment of the patient and perform related non‑professional services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Utilizes sound judgment in providing direct care to assigned patients within the limitations of the position and can identify priorities in relation to patient care needs.
- Observes for and reports promptly to the charge nurse any changes in patient’s physical or emotional status.
- Assists in the admission of patients by familiarizing the patient with the surroundings and assisting the patient into bed, and inventories patient’s belongings/equipment.
- Wears identification which clearly identifies the staff as a CNA when providing direct patient care unless wearing identification creates a safety or health risk for either nurse or the patient.
- Performs tasks associated with the patient’s nutritional needs, including setting up meal trays and assisting with feeding.
- Performs tasks associated with the patient’s need for activity, including assisting with ambulation, performing active and passive range‑of‑motion exercises, turning and positioning the patient in bed, and assisting the patient to a chair using proper techniques.
- Performs tasks associated with the patient’s bowel and bladder elimination needs, including assistance with bathroom, bedpan, and/or urinal usage, and collects specimens.
- Answers patient call lights within 5 minutes and then takes care of patient needs to the extent possible and/or reports the patient’s needs to the appropriate person.
- Rounds hourly with purpose, asking rounding questions (pain, position, potty and nutrition).
- Performs basic hygienic care to patient, including AM and PM cares (e.g., baths, pericare, catheter care, nail care, foot care, and hair care).
- Keeps patient rooms and bathrooms tidy, including changing linen and bed‑making.
- Obtains accurate patient weights, vital signs and blood sugars as directed by nurse.
- Initiates and maintains the proper use of equipment, operating equipment safely and correctly.
- Applies restraints when ordered by a practitioner and directed by a nurse.
- Assists with post‑mortem care.
- Assists with orientation of new personnel as requested.
- Adheres to hospital policy and established standards of care in all areas of patient care.
- Recognizes and processes through appropriate channels situations that jeopardize the quality, safety, and appropriateness of patient care.
- Records information concisely, accurately, and completely; documentation meets current standards and policies.
Education, Experience, and Training
- High School Diploma or GED (preferred).
- Certified Nursing Assistant Certification.
- Previous experience as a CNA (preferred).
- Conveys a general liking for people and the desire to be of service to others.
- Ability to work with associated technologies relevant to the position.
- Effective communication, both verbal and written, with all levels of the organization.
- Define problems, collect information, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Valid Mandatory Reporter training for Child and Dependent Adult Abuse.
