The Mission of ELMHS is to provide mental health evaluation, treatment, habilitation, and consultation for adults. Programs include inpatient interventions, jail-based evaluations, supervised group home and residential programs, forensic evaluation, care, custody, and aftercare; intermediate and long-term psychiatric care are coordinated with the total system of care in Louisiana.

• Transcribe doctor's orders accurately and in a timely manner
• Prepare, administer, and document medications and treatments as ordered
• Document patient's response to medication regime, PRN and stat dose administration, and provide patient teaching according to medications prescribed
• Check and justify all medications from Pharmacy, and maintain a clean, orderly, and well-stocked medication room
• Monitor patient status in milieu and assess patient behaviors. Report dangerous or inappropriate patient behaviors to RN supervisor
• Provide written and verbal reports of ward/unit occurrences to RN and provide information for shift hand-off
• Assist the Medical Doctor as needed and assure follow-up on orders are completed
• Direct psychiatric aide staff and/or Correction Guard-Therapeutic in performance of their duties and serve as resource for same
• Participate in unit activities and provide educational information for patients
• Attend monthly staff meetings, in-service trainings, mandatory education trainings and other educational programs

  This position qualifies for shift differentials, with rates varying based on shift time, day of the week, and holidays.

Possession of a current Louisiana Practical Nurse license, a temporary permit, or a multi‑state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state plus one year of experience as a licensed practical nurse.
