General Duties- Assessment:
Assesses complex acute, critical, and chronically ill patients for urgent and emergent conditions, uses relevant data to evaluate physiologic instability, and formulates plan of care. - Clinical Interventions:
Performs therapeutic interventions to stabilize acute and critical health problems, analyzes indications, contradictions, risk of complications, and cost‑benefits, and follows Scope of Practice and credentialing/privileging approvals. - Plan of Care:
Manages the plan of care through evaluation, modification, and documentation according to patient response to therapy; optimizes patient outcomes; incorporates health promotion, health protection, and injury prevention measures; facilitates transitions between and within health care settings. - Education:
Serves as an educational resource to patients/families, nursing staff, and provider team; acts as a consultant to multidisciplinary health care team members. - Professional Development:
Participates in scholarly activities such as research and education; maintains required competencies; identifies learning needs; serves as a preceptor and mentor for nurses, APPs, students, and other health care providers. - Patient Safety and Quality:
Demonstrates commitment to patient safety, speaks up about safety issues, changes practice to enhance safety, and shares errors or potential errors through system reporting mechanisms.
- Master’s degree from an approved Nurse Practitioner program – required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association.
- Nurse Practitioner Certification.
- Registered Nursing License (RN) – Louisiana State Board of Nursing.
- Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) – Louisiana State Board of Nursing.
- Additional facility‑specific licensure and certification (see ADDENDUM).
- Medical skills relevant to acute and critical care.
- Computer software skills: ICD‑10 and CPT‑4.
- Communication and guest relation skills.
Does not formally supervise employees.
Functional Demands- Medium physical requirements: exerts 20–50 pounds occasionally, 10–25 pounds frequently, and greater than negligible up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
- Physical demand requirements exceed those for light work.
