The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for the direct and indirect provision of professional nursing care for the patients in the Emergency Department (ED). The RN is accountable for ongoing evaluation and documentation of all components of care delivered to patients, including coordination and direct supervision of the patient care team. The ED RN is the acting house supervisor in the absence of department or senior leadership.

Responsibilities- Assess patients, identify changes in condition, and provide individualized nursing care in the Emergency Department.
- Administer medications, treatments, and other interventions in accordance with provider orders and established nursing standards.
- Use critical thinking and clinical judgment to respond to urgent, emergent, and rapidly changing patient needs.
- Collaborate with providers and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate safe, effective patient care.
- Respond to Rapid Response and Code events and provide nursing support to other patient care areas as needed.
- Educate patients and families about care plans, medications, follow-up needs, and discharge instructions.
- Maintain timely, accurate documentation and communicate important patient information during transitions of care and shift handoffs.
- Support department safety, quality improvement, equipment readiness, and other activities that promote excellent patient care.
- Serve as House Supervisor as assigned, providing clinical guidance, supporting hospital operations, and coordinating with leadership when needed.
- Help welcome and support new team members through orientation, collaboration, and day-to-day clinical guidance.
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program
License(s)/Certification(s):
- Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Iowa.
