Description

The Lead Nurse Case Manager serves as the clinical leader for occupational injury management and workers' compensation services. This position oversees injury management, including complex and high-risk cases, provides guidance and mentorship to occupational health staff, coordinates care across providers and stakeholders, and drives effective return-to-work strategies. The Lead Nurse Case Manager partners with leadership, Human Resources, Environmental Health & Safety, and external vendors to promote team member recovery, regulatory compliance, injury prevention, and safe return-to-work outcomes.

The Lead Nurse Case Manager serves as the clinical leader for occupational injury management and workers' compensation services. This position oversees injury management, including complex and high-risk cases, provides guidance and mentorship to occupational health staff, coordinates care across providers and stakeholders, and drives effective return-to-work strategies. The Lead Nurse Case Manager partners with leadership, Human Resources, Environmental Health & Safety, and external vendors to promote team member recovery, regulatory compliance, injury prevention, and safe return-to-work outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a commitment to team member care, workplace safety, customer service, and organizational values while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Direct and oversee the daily operations of the occupational health clinic, including staffing, scheduling, workflows, and service delivery.
  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop occupational health clinical and support staff to ensure high-quality patient care and operational effectiveness.
  • Maintain an active clinical practice by assessing, treating, and managing occupational injuries and illnesses within the scope of licensure and organizational protocols.
  • Collaborate with physicians and other licensed independent practitioners to coordinate appropriate treatment and follow-up care.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, HIPAA, workers' compensation regulations, and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Oversee workers' compensation processes, injury management programs, and return-to-work initiatives to promote positive outcomes and reduce lost work time.
  • Assist with managing clinic workflows, quality assurance programs, inventory, equipment maintenance, and operational resources.
  • Ensure accurate OSHA log management, injury reporting, regulatory documentation, and audit readiness.
  • Collaborate with On-site Employer leadership, Human Resources, Environmental Health & Safety, insurance carriers, and healthcare providers to support team member health and workplace safety initiatives.
  • Conduct workplace evaluations, safety observations, ergonomic assessments, and injury prevention activities.
  • Analyze occupational injury trends, workers' compensation metrics, and program outcomes to develop recommendations for risk reduction and process improvement.
  • Maintain policies, procedures, and best practices that support occupational health operations and regulatory compliance.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and program updates for organizational leadership.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between Iowa Ortho and On-site Employer Environmental Health & Safety regarding clinical case management, injury trends and strategic initiatives.
Requirements

Education and Experience
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program required.
  • Current Iowa Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
  • Five or more years of occupational health, workers' compensation, case management, emergency nursing, or related clinical experience preferred.
