In the fast-paced surgical environment, you serve as a critical connection between the patient, surgeon, anesthesiologist, and the entire interdisciplinary care team.

From preparing patients for surgery and ensuring a safe, sterile environment to providing exceptional care throughout the perioperative experience and supporting patients through recovery and discharge, you are there every step of the way.

In this role, you will:
  • Provide safe, compassionate, and high-quality nursing care to patients throughout the perioperative experience, including pre-operative, intraoperative, and post-operative care.
  • Prepare patients for surgical and procedural interventions by completing assessments, reviewing medical histories, verifying consents, confirming procedure readiness, and ensuring appropriate patient education.
  • Serve as a circulating and/or scrub nurse , supporting surgeons, anesthesia providers, and the surgical team during a variety of procedures.
  • Maintain a safe and sterile surgical environment while adhering to infection prevention practices, surgical safety standards, and established policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, advanced practice providers, surgical technologists, and other members of the healthcare team to coordinate exceptional patient care.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and patient while demonstrating strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Monitor patients before, during, and after procedures, recognizing and responding appropriately to changes in patient condition.
  • Provide post-operative care, education, and discharge instructions to patients and their families, ensuring they feel informed, supported, and prepared for the next steps in their recovery.
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and complete documentation in accordance with organizational, regulatory, and professional standards.
  • Participate in maintaining efficient patient flow throughout the Operating Room and Outpatient Surgery Center.
  • Support a culture of safety by participating in time-outs, surgical counts, handoffs, and other patient safety initiatives.
  • Assist with emergency situations and demonstrate the ability to remain composed, organized, and responsive under pressure.
  • Serve as an advocate for patients and their families throughout the surgical experience.
  • Maintain current knowledge of surgical procedures, equipment, technology, and evidence-based nursing practices.
  • Collaborate with leadership and team members to identify opportunities for process improvement, quality outcomes, and an exceptional patient experience.
