Summary: The Maintenance Specialist 1 is under the direction of the Supervisor or his designee and is an entry level position. The Maintenance Specialist 1 is required to perform manual labor and to operate and maintain all assigned parish equipment.

• Required to inspect and maintain all assigned equipment
• Grass cutting at various facilities properties
• Required to perform manual labor as directed
• Be courteous and responsive when dealing with the public
• Complete and submit all paperwork required in a neat and timely manner
• Practice safety measures when operating parish equipment or when on parish property
• May be required to complete tasks related to cleaning such as mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, emptying trash, etc.
• Regular, consistent attendance is required
• Any other duties as assigned

Competencies: Employee must have the knowledge and ability to be trained to operate some parish equipment.
Work Environment: The incumbent typically performs in an outdoor environment. This includes construction sites, open and empty land, wooded areas, both urban and rural roads and drainage, muddy areas, swampy areas, hot, humid, cold, and wet conditions that are consistent with outdoor projects. The incumbent may also be exposed to wildlife and bugs in the environment. This position may include work performed in an office environment for training, plan reviews, meetings, and project preparation and progress reviews.

Physical Demands: Medium work. Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting, lowering, pulling, pushing and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. If someone can do medium work, we determine that he or she can also do sedentary and light work. Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel and climb in order to complete various job duties.

Must be able to stand, sit and walk for extended periods, sometimes on uneven or rough terrain in various weather conditions.
Required Education/

Qualifications:

A high school diploma or equivalent GED required. Employee must have a valid Driver's License.
